21st Century Pedagogy

Pedagogy may be defined as the theory and practice of learning and teaching. Pedagogy which may be described as both an art and a science, encompasses the teaching methods, strategies, and philosophies used by educators to impart knowledge and skills as well as learning processes and outcomes while bearing in mind the social, psychological, and developmental differences in students. The field of pedagogy is currently mostly Eurocentric in orientation with a high degree of abstraction like most other fields of social sciences, and is not data driven or data focused enough. Ethnography is seldom used in pedagogical studies, and theorizations are often esoteric and inward looking. We also need to consider the slow and gradual automation of education, beginning with the higher levels and then the lower levels as and when technology and infrastructure progress suitably and commensurately. We have written extensively about this in the past. All this will help developing countries catch-up with developed ones in due course, educationally, economically, and technologically, and will help further the aims and ideals of our globalization of science movement. Such measures will enhance economic productivity too. Of all these papers, the most important one is “Intercalating a multi-barreled approach to educational and pedagogical reform: A brief summation of our publications on pedagogy.”
